Spring has sprung, and the creative energy is flowing! Forget about those recipes for a moment, because I'm here to share another project that perfectly captures the essence of springtime – a vintage receipt makeover with a touch of delicate pink florals.
Remember that story about the old dog learning new tricks? Well, consider this another trick in my ever-growing repertoire! I may be a little eccentric when it comes to my love for vintage ephemera, but that's what makes crafting so much fun, right?
Speaking of love affairs, my obsession with these paper treasures began in my childhood. My great-grandparents ran a plumbing business from the very house I grew up in. The basement held their antique adding machine and filing cabinets, the perfect setting for my own little pretend store! Who knew that little me, pounding those adding machine keys, would grow up to be so drawn to vintage receipts? I wish I had that adding machine still today, it would totally go with my style, some things never change with me.
Fast forward to today, and I've fully embraced my love for all things handmade and unique. So, when I stumbled upon some picture frames hidden away in the basement, I knew I had to create something special.
While the internet is overflowing with beautiful vintage receipt designs, I wanted to put my own personal touch on it. I've even dabbled in buying vintage ephemera packs and using receipt spikes for other creative projects.
If you haven't explored the wonders of Canva yet, you're seriously missing out! It's the design platform where I brought this floral receipt to life, and I can't wait to see what else I can create in the future.
As promised, I'm giving you the gift of this free printable floral receipt! Print it out and unleash your inner artist by crafting a one-of-a-kind piece for your home. Don't forget to share your creations – I love seeing how you bring your own creative vision to life!
Ready to transform a forgotten receipt into a piece of statement art? Here's what you'll need:
- Picture frame (thrift stores are your friend!)
- Thin cardboard (scrapbook paper backing works perfectly)
- Optional: Scrapbook paper (for larger frames)
- Free printable Peonies Flower Receipt (download link included!)
- Glue stick
- Scissors
Let's get crafting!
- Clean your frame to remove any dust.
- Cut the cardboard to fit the frame (only needed if your frame is larger than the receipt).
- If using scrapbook paper, cut it to size to fit the frame.
- Glue the scrapbook paper to the cardboard.
- Glue the Peonies Flower Receipt to the scrapbook paper.
- Once everything is dry, pop it all into the frame and find the perfect spot to display your vintage-inspired masterpiece!
Bonus Tips:
- I used a glue stick to avoid wrinkles. Feel free to use Mod Podge if you prefer a different finish.
- Recycle! Repurpose cardboard from cereal boxes or deliveries for this project.
- No scrapbook paper? No problem! An 8x10 frame won't need the extra edging.
- This would make a lovely gift with a finished backboard and hot glue for a more permanent hold.

And remember, if you have an old picture lying around that no longer sparks joy, give it a budget-friendly makeover with some new art. Happy crafting! (P.S. Here's hoping our beloved ephemera never becomes, well, ephemeral!)
Love the idea of using pretty printables in old frames. I have several laying around that I could use for this! Thanks for creating such a beautiful free vintage printable!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna, I had a lot of fun figuring out how to create the vintage printables. I much prefer handmade and vintage frames to new ones. I have both in our home, but I find the others have so much more personality.
DeleteSuch a beautiful way to upcycle an old frame, Cara. I love all the pops of pink and how it looks vintage and layered too. This would definitely make a fun gift idea. I can't wait to try it! Big hugs, CoCo
ReplyDeleteThank you CoCo, I am finding I have so many frames in the basement that I need to use, and so I am on a hunt for more ideas to frame now. I'd like to feel I am making a dent in the basement with getting items used instead of letting them sit down there and collect dust.
DeleteI just replaced my frames with new ones. I now have 3 frames in my attic waiting for the perfect way to use them. I may have just found what I've been waiting for! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to provide a bit of inspiration Cathy! I have a basement full of items that were left to us, and I am on a mission to use everything up down there. I have been surprised by some of my finds... you tend to forget what you packed up in a hurry to clear out a home. My husband's childhood home held so many unique finds, and I cannot wait to give them all a chance for a new life.
