Searching for ideas for spring décor? We are excited to share with you an idea for spring décor by shopping our home which means it was free, my favorite kind of decor!
It is like a new slate wiped clean each year when old man winter finally releases us from his clutches and says, ok spring, it's your turn, do your worst. Only, guess what? Spring says let's make everything pretty, and colorful, and those darn bunnies get busy under our bushes creating more bunnies.
Of course, this has been very bothersome to our peanut, he has been taunted by the bunny who seems to be getting mighty chubby in our back yard. All I have to say is, that bunny sure is lucky we take him out on a leash.
It seems to come out from under our bushes every time I take Bentley out. What does he do? Creeps like a lion, ready to pounce on it's prey. Oh yeah, he creeps, then runs, and just stops short of him running out of leash.
The bunny? Oh, he just turns his back to him... if I cannot see you, you cannot see me, right? Bentley has already broken one training collar lurching after something in our yard late one night. I worry for him and the bunny every time we go out. None of the other yards on our block have a dog, so why this bunny thinks our yard is the best yard to stay, I have no idea!
Just another part of spring I guess.
I finally made a few changes in our bathroom above our cabinet. If you recall, this cabinet has had a few make overs in it's short time in our bathroom. I admit, I love the shorter legs so much more than those tall legs.
I shopped our home and decided to take our oversized lantern and move it to our bath and then I moved around a few of my milk glass hobnail pieces, and lastly, the little pink rose. Do you know my sister bought that for me when I was in high school for my birthday one year?
Yes, I have hung on to it for all of these years and never lit the candle once. There was once a time where I collected unique candles. This one was special to me, and I thought too pretty to burn. I tend to hold on to items gifted to me. Do you hold on to those items you deem special?
Mr. VS is one of those who says, it is time to move on and let go of things because he is not a fan of clutter... that is what he calls all of the treasures I hold near and dear to my heart! Can you believe that? How dare he refer to my décor as clutter!
Friday evening after I went to bed, Mr. VS decided to add a battery operated light to our lantern to give it a little pizzaz. He did this all on his own, and I have to say, he did a wonderful job making this a nightlight for our bath. I woke Saturday morning to a picture he took of our lovely rustic lantern.
Those bits of chipped paint, and the door that does not fit quite right, and those glass panes, but I think it just adds character to our bath, and is perfectly imperfect for us. Those cathedral like panes got me when I saw them, and I just knew I had to have it.
I picked it up a few years ago at a barn sale, and let me tell you this piece was in rough shape! I wish I would have taken pics of it when I brought it home with me. Some may have said, leave it where it was, you actually paid money for that piece? But I saw that chippy paint and what it could be, so I said yes, you are coming home with me big lantern, I have plans for you...
I was amazed at the amount of dirt that came out of this thing, but it is all cleaned up now. There was bits of straw, dirt, cobwebs, and Lord knows what else lurking inside this lantern.
I cleaned the glass with my favorite Mrs. Meyers all purpose cleaner. It's my favorite to clean mirrors and glass with since it never streaks like other cleaners tend to do. You would never believe the amount of dirt that came from the glass alone from this lantern, I was amazed!
I think we need a little something else on top of our cabinet, but I just have not figured out what that is exactly just yet. I did not care for the lantern sitting straight on the cabinet, so I angled it a bit. The strand of pearls are from Christmas, but darn it, I love those pearls around the house in all sorts of different ways. I tilted the one milk glass piece just so... I wanted that rose to be the star of the show, and I have to say, I am pleased, for now anyway. We all know how I tend to change things up around here when I choose.
The best part? We had every piece already here, so no money was spent on this update in our bathroom. That is the best part, free! I so enjoy changing things up, spending very little or no money at all. I also love seeing items around our home in a new light, you never know unless you change it up and see what you can accomplish.
I enjoy finding beauty in other's discarded items. Even if they are covered in grime, dirt, and whatever else was inside this beauty. Sometimes those diamonds in the rough are just what we need to make a house a home.
