A book to share about French décor

Searching for information about French décor?  I have a book to share with you that will show you how to decorate your home in French wares.

I know I am not the only one out there who enjoys decorating my home.  You see, before I decided to try my hand at blogging, I followed many blogs, and I actually still do.  It is my guilty pleasure... I love to sit down and read about and look at others' homes and their projects.  Every evening after a long day at work, and dinner was over with, and the kitchen was cleaned up... it was my designated "me time" to peruse blogs...

For some reason, I do not have as much time these days to read every single word on every single post, but I still try to scan each each blog I follow daily.  I still consider it my time to decompress... I think everyone needs a designated time for themselves.  I used to love the drive into work because I could just let my mind drift off to think about whatever I decided that day.

Believe me when I tell you this, I can get lost in my own brain for hours... being an introvert I think has something to do with it.  I just enjoy using the creative side of my brain... thinking about something I saw online and how I can recreate it can lead me down a path... some evenings before I know it, the house is quiet and everyone has gone to bed, and I am still thinking about a project I want to do and how I will implement it.

I wake up at all hours of the night thinking about our home and which thing we should work on next.  My brain never shuts down... do any of you experience this?  It can be quite bothersome when you know you need the sleep, but you cannot quiet the chaos happening in your mind.  Once I get something on my mind, I will not let it go until I have figured out how I will make it happen.  Between peanut and our home, and let's face it - work, it's no wonder I never sleep.

I have said before, I sway towards French and English influence in our home.   I have loved French provincial furniture before I even knew what it was called.  As a little girl, I loved going furniture shopping with my Mom.  I would get so enthralled with the displays and look at every detail, taking it all in.  I would look at paintings, lamps, the furniture itself, and I would roam from room to room looking at all of the items for sale.  Furniture shopping was my favorite kind of shopping, reflecting back, this may explain my obsession with furniture now...

Below you will see our most favorite piece... I will be sharing the story of this piece very soon.

French chest
My most cherished French provincial piece, we both love it!

I love the curves of French provincial furniture... how the legs curve, and the feet turn up on the ends... the drawer pulls on these dressers or chests are typically pretty decorative... the carvings or appliques sometimes found on these pieces... really gets me excited to see more... the chairs with their wide set seats, and curved backs...  and the upholstery... ranging from subtle colors to very loud prints...

So you may be wondering why I decided to bring this up?  I recently purchased a book through my Kindle app called French Accents by Anita Joyce.  I have followed her blog for years, gobbling up every word she had to say about all things French, but now I see a different side and realize I did not know as much as I thought I did.

If you are interested, you can purchase the Kindle book or a hard cover, BUT... if you have the Kindle Unlimited Membership, you will get it for FREE!  I jumped all over that so I could get some ideas... I have recently decided I am obsessed with antique seltzer bottles, why you ask?  No reason in particular, other than I like them.  I love the colored glass on some, the blue ones to be exact, and some green... I have not purchased any and to be honest, I am not sure if I will... I need to rid out before I bring in new... but this book, was a good read for me...  she really encourages her readers to create their own style, something I am a firm believer in.  If you decide to read it (or look at the pictures which I enjoyed too), let me know what you think.  Click the book cover to see her book.

I thought many of you would really enjoy this book and I wanted to share it with you.  I learned quite a bit and enjoyed her path of self discovery using her passion for all things French and decorating her 1970's ranch home and making it the French oasis she has created.

Earlier this week, I was scavenging through our attic and I thought to myself, wow!  I have a lot of things that I have accumulated over the years.  I started collecting when I was 18 years old... putting items back for my future home when I was ready for it...

Mr. Vintage kids I am one episode away from being on a hoarder's show.  It's really not that bad, but the attic may be close... I have a path... of course, in my defense, there is only one area where you can actually stand up straight, right down the middle so I have totes lining the attic walls (it’s a pretty severely slopped ceiling).

Are you organized in your home, a place for everything, and everything in it's place, or do you have too many items like myself?  My organization?  Totes all labeled in our attic... one year on our vacation Mr. Vintage and I went through everything in the attic and completed that project... one down, one hundred to go... we keep plugging away at making this our dream home.  I feel very thankful we were able to purchase this home when we did... and I have especially loved the path we have taken making her beautiful again.
