A few of my favorite things....

Searching for antique, vintage, or new finds that appear older?  Here are some ideas of where you can find these sorts of pieces.

I have always loved that song, and so it will be my ear worm for the day, Martha, that was for you...  😉

Do you have those items in your home that mean something to you?  It was given to you by someone special, was a great find, or a purchase from a special trip you spent with family or friends... you may or may not find it hard to believe I have many favorite somethings... I cannot just choose one so I thought I would share a few with you today.

My Fostoria cake plate... I love it because Mr. Vintage and I went to an auction and I purchased it for $1.00!  It was the second auction we had ever attended together.  I do not recall what the draw was to this particular auction, but I thought I was bidding on a different cake plate and ended up with that one.  We laughed about it and it was a special day just spending time together.  At the time, I was going through a cake plate collecting phase... I usually display it in my China cabinet, but I got it out for spring.  If you would like to see the eggs Mr. Vintage made, you can check it out by clicking the link.

The airplane propeller Mr. Vintage got for me for Christmas last year...  I teared up when he gave it to me since he had it engraved with my grandfather's name.  You see, I get my collecting from him.  He loved to collect things and planes was one of them, he had seven different planes throughout his life.  One was a WWII fighter jet that is now in a museum in Texas.  My grandfather was also a great hobbyist, he had many ranging from woodworking, to painting... he could repair anything and was a hero in my eyes. My grandparents have always meant the world to me.  My grandmother is still living, she is 98!

You can find an airplane propeller similar to the one I have here.  I thought this one was pretty neat too.  This one is at an awesome price! So is this one.  Can't tell I love them, huh?

My milk glass hobnail basket.  It is very near and dear to me since my grandmother gave it to me.  I started a collection of milk glass hobnail pieces many years ago and she decided to add to my collection with this piece.  The items I have collected over the years are displayed throughout our home, but many of them are in my China cabinet.

Do you see my Christmas ornaments here?  I really do use them all over our home!

A vintage bird planter... as I have stated before, birds will always remind me of my grandfather.  When I cleaned up this piece, there was a sticker on it from a local flower shop.  I love finding things like this.  Such nostalgia in these pieces...  I really should have been born in a different era.  I love the past and many pieces from it.

I get a sparkle in my eye when I find something special... I have been known to get that far away look when an item brings a memory rushing to the forefront of my mind.  We only fill our home with things we love, I am not one to follow trends or buy something just because it's "in style".  When you have a cozy cottage, you do need to be mindful of what you are bringing in.  I have had to learn that lesson over the years.  I cannot honestly say there is not one thing I feel lukewarm about in our home.

The plum Fenton hobnail piece Mr. Vintage's great-aunt gave us for a wedding gift...  She was a legend in this area for her antique collection.  When I visited her home for the first time, I was so overwhelmed, it was a collection of epic proportions!  She collected EVERYTHING!  Items I had never seen, items you only see on Antique Roadshow, you name it, she had it.

One piece that really stands out in my mind was a circus tent filled with circus animals.  It was about 100 years old which went perfect in her over 100 year old home.  She has since passed, but she had an auction when she moved from her home into assisted living.  We both had to work and were unable to attend.  I had hoped to be able to be able to purchase more Fenton pieces. Her vast collection was quite impressive and included all colors.  Makes me all dreamy eyed thinking about all that glassware and antiques!

This antique picture frame... Mr. Vintage and I had not been dating for very long when I found this beauty. We decided to go to our first yard sale together.  I remember it like it was yesterday... there was a community yard sale (my favorite) in an older neighborhood on this particular day.  I walked up to the home and eyed the frame right away!

The owner said, "That has been in my family for close to 100 years!"  It was not a hard sale, a steal in my mind since she was selling it for $1.00!  I said well, thank you, I love it!  As we walked back to our car, I whispered to Mr. Vintage, that is a steal for this frame!  They are not $1.00 in the antique stores! The chippy pieces are perfect!

Now, where to find pieces like the ones I mentioned above?  You may be surprised to learn you can find older pieces on Amazon.  I learned this in my searches looking for specific items!

If you enjoyed the plum colored hobnail bowl, you can find a similar one on Amazon here.  Sometimes you just cannot find the exact piece you are looking for, so I go searching for what I want.  Sometimes I find the exact piece and sometimes it is a look-a-like.  Searching for me is half the fun!

Are there any jade lovers out there?  I found many pieces, including a bunny dish I may have to move over to my cart... you can find him here.  And guess what?  I found him in a pearlized white as well here

I found a lovely bird planter which you can find here.  And another one here.

And if you are into cake plates, I found the cutest aqua cottage cake plate.  And here is another cute green cake plate.

I’ve said it before, you really never know what you may find here. My interests span pretty wide, I do not like to be pigeonholed into one style, but I’d say our home is a little traditional, a little cottage, with a French twist thrown in. I’m not a rule follower when it comes to decorating, are their any rules when being creative? Just go with the flow is my motto.

How would you describe your style?
