You know how I love to make over everyday items to look different. I decided to try something new for me. I love birds, they remind me of my grandfather... I found napkins with birds on them and decided to see how I could make over this plain Jane vase.
I cleaned the vase so it was free of fingerprints and dirt on the outside.
I started applying decoupage to the vase and then pressing the napkin to the vase and applying more decoupage to the napkin on the outside.
I continued to apply decoupage to the vase and applying more napkins to the vase so it was covered all over.
I had to walk away at this point and let it dry because I did not want to keep messing and tearing the paper...
Here is a close up, what do you think? It is not perfect, but for my first try doing something like this, I do not think it is too bad.
I gathered up some flowers and gold beaded picks I already had and made a flower arrangement. I enjoy putting them together and I keep playing with them until I get something I like.
Peonies are my favorite and I especially love them with roses and hydrangeas. In my opinion, it is the perfect mix of flowers and textures.
It was time for something different in the bathroom so here is my newest addition. It was pretty easy, you do need some patience though. I did not have a lot of that with this project for some reason, maybe because it was getting late and I was getting cranky, lol! A gal needs her sleep too! I do not seem to get much of that, so I take what I can get.
I may add some twinkle lights to the inside of the vase, imagine that...
The vase was a thrifted find and the napkins came from Amazon (similar found here), $5.99 for a pack of 10. I used 3 napkins on this vase so I still have more to figure out another project with. I do like how it picks up the blush in the tile of our bath. Maybe I will try a tray that the vase can set on? I am not sure, still working it out in my mind... as you can see, I still have yet to remove the tree soap pump. I was hoping I would run out of soap soon before I tuck it away until next year.

Guess what, we used a kitchen cabinet in our bathroom which you can find here.

Very pretty and so cheap to do to! Love the napkins you chose!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteOh love this idea. I have some pretty napkins I've wanted to do something like this with them!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is really easy, but my patience wore a little thin because I was not sure if it was going to turn out how I saw it in my vision.. LOL. Good luck, you will have to let us all know how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love decoupage projects although I'm not very good at them...getting better with each attempt!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim, we actually just worked on another one. We like to work on projects for our home together especially since we have been staying home this past year. We laugh at some of the fails and smile at the wins!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty vase!
ReplyDeleteThank you Peppermint, it is an easy project and easy on the purse strings too! We have been enjoying these decoupaging projects, more to come so stay tuned! Thank you for your comment!
DeleteHey, you've inspired me to think and create too. Thank you for that. Now, concerning your vase, here is what I wondered. Although yours is very pretty, you seemed to be frustrated with the creasing. Here's what else I wondered: What is you used the same napkins with the beautiful birds and cut around each bird and flower that you want to see in its entirety, then glued it to the vase, bottle or jug? What if you used the same napkins on your bathroom cup (the one used to rinse when you brush your teeth)? You might even spray paint the vase first with the peachy color and hit it with a bit of sand paper, then glue the napkins sections on. The napkins would also look beautiful glued onto a mirror and then decoupaged over and placed inside a picture frame on a wall. I guess I'm off to buy some napkins. Thanks a lot for your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI'm Bea; not Unknown. lol
DeleteHi Bea, thank you for your suggestions. I still have plenty of napkins left over I may try another project for the bathroom. It was our first try at decoupaging a whole item, we liked it so much, we decided to do our kitchen backsplash too. I love your ideas, thank you so much for sharing!
DeleteThese napkins are to die for, I must have them at once! Your vase came out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, this was my first decoupage project and I was quite fond of those napkins with birds too. I enjoy taking ordinary items around the house or from thrift stores and making them over.
