How the foyer changed

We will be starting a new project in the kitchen.  I am really excited about it and will talk more about it when it is underway.  Fingers crossed it goes as smoothly as we hope.  I am needing to move things around the cottage to make room for this new project.

I have always had a bench in the kitchen since we moved in by the back door.  It is a nice place to put on and take off shoes, I have also stored wicker laundry baskets under the bench to store shoes.  We do not wear our shoes in the house and it is very convenient to leave them by the back door because of this.  I have a compromised immune system and the hospital explained all of the germs we bring into our homes with our shoes.  She went into great detail and that was enough for me to decide to leave the shoes at the back door.  If you would like to hear more about it, I can give you info, but I will leave out all of the gory details otherwise.  😉

I thought about putting the bench at the foot of our bed, but then I decided why not by the front door?  This wall was my nemesis for years trying to figure out the perfect item to put under the mirror.  I purchased this mirror years ago at an antique mall.  I fell in love with it immediately!  I was always looking for the perfect foyer table to put with this mirror, and always came up short.  Once the mirror was hung, I decided I liked it best with no table.  How simple and guess what?  Easy on the pocket book too!

Remember the entryway night light?  You can find the how to here.   I just moved it from the floor to the bench.  Simple enough, right?

As you can see, I have a really hard time letting go of winter decorations... I will keep them up until the end of February and maybe even into the first week of March.  Then I work on getting my spring things out.

When we had the new floors installed, the wood threshold piece was broken and had to be replaced.  Every since then, we have had a drafty door so I purchased a draft stopper from Amazon to prevent all of that cold air from coming in.  The entry rug came from Overstock where I purchase all of our rugs.  They send out coupons frequently, and I have to say I have always been very happy with their merchandise.  The terra cotta statue to the left of the door came from TJ Maxx.  I love that place and all of their flagship stores!  If you would like to see the before of our foyer, you can find it here

Have you seen interior doors painted black?  I am seriously thinking about giving this a try in our entry.  The face of our front door is painted a high gloss black paint and I keep tossing around the idea of doing the same on the inside.  I am kind of nervous about it though at the same time too.  Your thoughts?

Here is a flower arrangement I put together a couple of years ago.  All of the flowers came from Amazon.  They have excellent prices on florals and I even buy flowers for our porch from them as well.  Black thumb and all, I cannot keep anything alive, so I stopped trying years ago.

Well, what do you think?  Should it stay or should it go?  If you recall at Christmas time, this is what it looked like before.

I feel feel like the foyer looks a little smaller with the bench, but I think it will stay here for a while, how long?  That remains to be seen.  There is a peanut always needing to know what is going on around here.
